Qualifications:
Background in Social Services, working knowledge of CalWORKS and/or Social Security and Food Stamps strongly preferred. Able to handle heavy client contact. Bi-lingual speaking and writing skills in Spanish highly preferred. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Excellent research and analytical skills. This position is available immediately and reports to work in Pacoima. Intermittent travel between offices may be required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Health Consumer Counselor is trained to provide information and legal assistance on a wide-range of issues related to health care access for low-income individuals and families. HCC is hotline-based therefore the counselor will screen and assist callers with trouble-shooting issues related to programs such as Medi-Cal and Healthy Families. He/she will also provide assistance in managed health care and medical debt.

Responsible for government benefits legal work including handling hearings, litigation and policy advocacy related to a wide range of public benefit programs, including but not limited to: CalWORKs, General Relief, unemployment, Food Stamps, and SSA/SSI cases. The Staff Attorney is expected to focus on housing and consumer advocacy including: pursue all aspects of housing and/or consumer-related civil litigation and administrative hearing representation; represent clients in eviction defense and subsidized housing termination cases; participate in high-impact projects involving systemic or policy issues affecting low-income individuals and families; develop/maintain expertise on a range of housing and consumer issues affecting low-income individuals; provide outreach and education to tenant and community groups; assist with some training and supervision of housing/consumer hotline staff. May participate in litigation and/or policy work in substantive legal areas other than housing/consumer law, depending upon skills, client needs and NLS program priorities.
Qualifications:
Attorney with 0 to 4 years experience who is highly motivated and passionate about public service work, with sensitivity to those in crisis. Excellent writing, speaking and organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with clients, community organizations, attorneys, the judiciary and the public. Background in housing law or consumer law and experience working with low-income organizations and client groups preferred. Bilingual skills in Spanish, Armenian, Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) or other Asian/Pacific Islander languages strongly preferred. California Bar membership required.

Be part of an exciting team of advocates participating in all aspects of dynamic fast-paced anti-poverty law practice. The staff attorney will provide direct legal services to low income residents of Antelope, Santa Clarita, San Fernando, San Gabriel, and Pomona Valleys and will provide advice, brief services, and representation to clients in administrative hearings and court proceedings. He/she will participate in public policy advocacy, community education, and outreach activities. The family law staff attorney is responsible for representing survivors of domestic violence in restraining order hearings and related family law matters and will collaborate closely with staff at domestic violence shelters and social services agencies.
Qualifications:
Candidate must be licensed to practice law in California. Three or more years experience in family law and/or domestic violence preferred. Bilingual skills in Spanish, Armenian, Chinese, or Farsi needed. Prior experience serving low-income individuals and client groups with a sensitivity to those in crisis preferred.
